Art Direction Support | Mini Visual Identity Toolkit (Optional Add-On)

What happens when music memory becomes moodboard direction?

Mazwi Da DJ plays from the heart of heritage by weaving together kwaito, old-school house, and Afro-soul with a pulse that feels familiar yet forever relevant. The challenge? Craft a visual identity for public relations that matched the soul of his sound while positioning him for broader bookings, brand growth, and visual consistency.

The Ask:

Shape Mazwi’s public-facing visual language through a PR shoot moodboard and a gig guide visual identity; tools that would help him show up confidently to promoters, media partners, and event brands across South Africa and the continent.

The moodboard needed to carry his sonic nostalgia, while the gig guide had to feel fresh, legible, and true to his grounded but intentional tone.

My Response:

I led a streamlined art direction sprint, using insight from Mazwi’s genre roots to create a visual system that felt both soulful and strategy-ready.

For the PR moodboard, I worked with three emotional anchors:

• Nostalgia (evoked through urban textures + monochrome moments)
• Warmth (browns, brass, soft light references)
• Legacy (through Afrocentric looks and timeless styling)

Each image in the deck was chosen to guide future collaborators, stylists, and photographers to honour Mazwi’s voice and not over-style it.

For the gig guide, I translated that same visual tone into a clean but textured layout, offering high-impact visibility for weekly show dates, brand partnerships, and digital distribution.

Outcome:

Mazwi walked away with a PR-ready visual kit that's rooted in sound, shaped for visibility. The assets became foundational touchpoints for press comms, social media storytelling, and promoter pitches with clear brand coherence and emotional tone.
